How to repair and reboot to Windows 7:
a) Insert the Windows 7 System Repair DVD or Installation DVD and reboot.
b) Select the correct keyboard input method and click ‘Next’.
Note: If you are using the Windows7 Install DVD then at the 'Install Now' prompt (Do not pick the Install Now option) instead choose the 'Repair your computer' option located in the lower left of the dispay.
c) The System Repair tool will search for a valid operating system and will report that “Windows found problems with your computer’s startup options. Do you want to apply repairs and restart your computer?”
d) Click ‘Repair and restart’ and reboot again to the Windows 7 System Repair environment.
e) Click ‘Next’ at the keyboard selection prompt and when the ‘System Recovery Options’ screen appears verify that the “Use recovery tools that can help fix problems starting Windows” is selected.
Note that on your Dual Boot system there now should be only one operating system listed. Click the ‘Next’ button.
f) Now from the menu list select the ‘Command Prompt’ option.
g) At the DOS prompt type the following three commands:
bootrec.exe  /fixmbr
bootrec.exe  /fixboot (may return an 'Eliment not found' message)
bootrec.exe  /RebuildBcd
h) Close the command prompt window and click the ‘Startup Repair’ option.
i) The repair process may take some time, so wait until the process completes at which point you will see two messages “Windows cannot repair this computer automatically” and “Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically”.
These messages are the result of the radical changes made by removing the other OS.
J) Close this message window by clicking on the X in the upper right corner of the Send/Don’t send window. Next click on the ‘View advanced options for system recovery and support’ option and from the main menu once again click ‘Startup Repair’. This time the repair process may only that a few seconds and when prompted “Startup Repair could not detect a problem”, click ‘Finish’  and run the ‘Startup Repair’ option one more time, click ‘Finish’, and then remove the System Repair DVD and click ‘Restart’.  Reboot the computer.

It’s been a very long time since Yahoo has personally impressed me. In the 90’s they were the number one directory (search engine) in the world and even so popular they could charge a $200 fee just to apply to be in the directory. Through what I believe to be lack of communication and mismanagement they dropped their search engine a couple years back and have finally been purchased by Verizon.

The Latest Yahoo Email Problem

It’s seems the latest Yahoo mail format has cause problems with a few of my in home computer support clients.  I recently made a computer troubleshooting house call to an in home computer client in Ewa Beach. My client could only get to the first page of Yahoo mail. There were no next page buttons or arrows. My computer client was afraid he/she clicked on something. By the way getting relatives to help you get out of this problem usually leads to a frustrated look stating “I don’t know what you did”. I’m here to assure you, you did nothing it’s Yahoo email.

Here’s The Steps I Took to Resolve The Yahoo Email Problem

http://makemycomputerfasterc.us/index.php/topic,21.0.html#.PleaseShareToSocialGroupsByCopyingFromTheLinkOnUp

Cleared the history

Be careful when you do this. I’ve had in home computer clients not be able to find their favorite websites because they didn’t bookmark them or add them to favorites. Bookmarking and adding to Favorites are the same thing it just depends on what your particular internet browser call it.

Removed cookies and temporary internet files

You can do this through the browser, but I use various applications that do a very thorough job of this which can be found in my maintenance and computer virus removal ebook Secrets to Computer Virus Removal - How I Ticked Off My Competitors

I always closed and restarted the internet browser after this. I even tried Yahoo email on different internet browsers testing on both Google Chrome and Edge. Edge is the little e in Windows 10 and has replaced Internet Explorer.

Reset to Basic

I finally reset Yahoo email to Basic. After this the page arrows reappeared on the top and bottom of the Yahoo mail page.

I recently had Rick help me with my computer. He was able to fix all my computer questions and did not leave me “hanging” on anything. And the fact that he comes to me, instead of dropping my computer off, allowed for specific issues to get addressed in one sitting and I was not without my computer.

Also, since we were “hands on,” he could see what I use my computer for and offered suggestions and “short-cuts” to make my job easier.

Rick was very patient and focused on the task at hand and no time was wasted. It is rare to have a computer guy come to you, and at a reasonable price, get the job done and offer more than you bargained for.

Thanks Rick, I'll be calling you soon!

I Realize Everyone Wants to Use Mobile Apps But Had You Considered This…

Some mobile apps offer the same or fewer features than their website based version.

When you download a mobile app you need your username and password.  As an in home computer tutor and virus removal specialist here in Honolulu Hawaii covering all of Oahu, 25% of my calls are people who have forgotten their passwords. I even have to hack Windows and Apple/Mac computer logins for people.

When you get a new phone, you may need your username and password again for those same apps.

Mobile apps take memory in your cell phone. This same memory,  unlike a computer with a hard drive, is used to

Run the phone's operating system
Watch streaming video
Text and store texts
Talk
And everything else

Most people nowadays have a tablet and a cell phone. For every device you have you usually want the same applications. Unless the app is networked (did someone just whisper security breach), nothing you tell the app to remember on one device will cross over to the other device.

Okay Rick, But Apps Have Been So Ingrained in Our Thoughts by Commercials, What's The Alternative

http://makemycomputerfasterc.us/index.php/topic,17.msg17.html#PleaseCopyFromTheLinkUpToSocialGroups

Google Chrome! It's already built into your phone if you have an Android phone. If you have an iPhone it's downloadable from the Apple store. The one thing I missed with my Windows phone was Google Chrome. It wasn't available in the Microsoft store.

Google Chrome’s ability to remember passwords cross-device by associating your passwords with your Google  (Gmail) account is a service that has saved many of my in home and in business  (onsite) computer clients heartache. Of course there's still the matter of remembering your one password for your Google account. Don't make it so complicated you end up having to call me, but don't worry you wouldn't be the first.

Your bookmarks and history are stored as well so it's easy to get to the website.  Once there your username and password populate into the proper boxes and you tap submit or whatever it always states.

So Consider an Alternative

A well established, internet browser,  which already has your your information in it. Not taking up any extra memory or running in the background. Consider thinking outside of the box and using Google Chrome.

Enjoy your cell phone and tablet.
Your friendly neighborhood computer geek
Rick
