How I Finally Installed an Old Printer on Windows 10 #FreePrinterSetupTip #InHomePrinterSetupHonolulu by in home computer, tablet and smart cell phone tutor, mobile virus removal, repair and setup specialist, dual certified teacher, website designer and SEO expert J. This was an old HP laser printer. It did have a USB cord, but was not wireless compatible. I downloaded the universal printer driver from HP. When you download something like this make sure you ALWAYS download from the manufacturer’s website. As one of the best in home computer virus removal specialists on Oahu, I can verify most of the computer viruses come from third party software. Remember, nothing is free. Everyone has to make a living. So if you haven’t bought something from a company previously and that company wants to support you so you’ll buy again, then the third party company has to figure out another way to make money from you.

Even after installing the Universal Printer from HP I couldn’t get the printer to be found by Windows 10.  So finally I went into Control Panel by typing Control into the Cortana search box on the lower left hand side of the desktop.

I click Control which was the first search result

From Control Panel I clicked on Device Manager

I found the USB device that was supposed to have the printer driver in it and it stated no driver! So I right mouse clicked on it for the menu and had it find the driver I had previously installed.

I got the beautiful sound of the laser printer initiating to print held my hands up in the air and shouted, “Cause that’s what I do!” Yes once in a while I let the ADHD out, which gave me the gift of focus and not being able to let go of a problem until I solved it.  My in home and remote computer, tablet and cell phone clients love it.

I had never, since 1993, had to go into the device manager to add an installed printer driver directly to the USB port. Of course the easiest way to take care of your printer setup issues is to just have me do it. I love solving the technology issues that drive most people crazy!
